very pretty image...
is the moon real though?
seems to be in front of the clouds

@Maria: Thanks, Maria. Yes, the moon is indeed quite real and in no way manipulated. The moon is so bright that it will completely shine through very thin clouds. Going back and looking at my series of raw images from that evening, it's pretty clear that the clouds are very thin here, but they thicken quite a bit as they rise. Eventually they obscured the moon a lot more (but never completely)

Thanks Gary...I read your post on wordpress, and I understood it's real...
but at first glance it looked as if it was closer than the clouds
Happy New Year! and again, thanks for the reply

@Maria: Yeah, I totally get why you'd think that--I thought it looked odd too, so I'm glad you gave me a chance to explain (because I bet others thought the same thing but didn't say anything). Happy New Year to you, too.

Hi Gary - Well, honestly, I'm not trying to sound esoteric here, but I have never really wondered about the moon here in this composition...I have seen situations like this myself where, if caught at the right moment, the moon will appear quite clearly as the clouds move along. This has ALWAYS been one of my favorites..
(I am also still planning to get that Bristlecone Star shot ...that's #1 on my list :-) I hope you have a very Happy New Year, Gary - Thank you SO very much for your wonderful comments, teachings, kindness, and, most of all, your images that are completely in a category all their own! All the best sir :-)
