Bristlecone and Star Trails, Schulman Grove

Posted by
Gary Hart (California, United States) on 14 October 2012 in Landscape & Rural.

This silhouette of a 4,000 year old bristlecone pine is an old favorite. I share a few words about these trees, and the story of this capture, on my WordPress blog.

Gary, when Barbara and I lived in Texas for many years, we both picked up on a lot of Texas expressions and terminology. And my first reaction to this image is a "Texasism:"...This is just 'flat' awesome, Gary!! No two ways about it!...It also seems to fit the time of season, as we draw near Halloween and this old lord here has that unmistakeable "wizardly" look that many of the old patriarchs have at Bristlecone...Additionally, the angle of heh stars in this frame is perfect in relation to the right hand branches of this old beauty - almost appearing as if the branches are outstretched in an effort to catch them as they zoom straight towards the branches just at the "proper" angle...... I just absolutely love this piece, Gary. The indigo sky is phenomenal...how can I say this has become one of my favs of yours...everything you do is "flat" fantastic...but as much as I love Bristlecone, this really lands in my heart. So thank you for this one sir..Beautiful, Beautiful piece here. Cheers - dj
