Poppies!, Hite Cove Trail, Merced River Canyon

I don't think there's a more photogenic flower than the poppy. It's California's state flower, a spring highlight here in the Golden State. Some years they appear in patches, other years they blanket entire hillsides. Guess what they're doing this year.

Hi Gary - I completely agree with you about the photogenic aspect of the Golden Poppy...They linger in our minds and hearts once we see them. I realize that may be a tall staement to make because I am thinking, as I write this, of your "champagne glass" shots of a few years back and so many others that you have produced...all of which are phenomenal and SO very captivating , but this one really seems to take center stage . Perhaps it is the newness of this one but I really am taken by it. The inclusion of the purple flowers (not sure what they are...look like lupine but I don't think so) is so wonderful but I think the choice you made to really go tight and put unmistakeable focus on the diagonal group in the frame center-left just provides a wonderful base of operations for the eye and soul. The is=llusion of movement in the others tells us that we are out doors and in heaven :-) Finally, when I was a kid at Sierra College and Barbara and I met and fell in love there, we would stroll the nearby hills and sit amongst the Poppies for long periods of time - I fell in love with her and the poppies at the same time :-) Have a wonderful late spring Gary...Just beautiful, these!!
