A couple of weeks ago I went out to the foothills to photograph a crescent moon and Venus conjunction. The moon was obscured by clouds, but the sunset that evening was off the charts. To anyone who's skeptical about the color, let me suggest that you get out more--color in nature can be extremely vivid, even without Photoshop manipulation. This image required virtually no processing. Secrets to capturing natural color include going out well before sunrise and staying out well past sunset, slight underexposure to keep the color from washing out, and isolating the most brilliant part of the scene with a telephoto. I share more of my thoughts on color on my WordPress blog. .
