Wild Orchid, Lava Tree State Park, Hawaii

Posted by
Gary Hart (California, United States) on 26 September 2011 in Plant & Nature.

I think I could get used to living someplace where orchids grow wild. This beautiful specimen was one of thousands dotting Lava Tree State Park, south of Hilo. I dusted off my macro skills for this image, and write a few words about it here.

@janina: Thanks, Janina. The focus point is the stamen, which is as sharp as sharp can be (jpeg and Aminus3 compression notwithstanding). If you read my blog, you'll see that I very intentionally limited my DOF to soften the background.
