Lunar Kiss, Half Dome and Sentinel Dome, Yosemite

If I'd have let my camera set the exposure for this crescent moon rising above Yosemite Valley, I'd have ended up with a useless compromise of highlights and shadows. That's because cameras are stupid.

A true statement - one that I still have trouble remembering in spur of the moment situations...gotta work on that! This image is so classic, clean and unmatched Gary. Beautiful detail.... and I love this feeliing of "Mood Indigo" as much as the Duke Ellington fact, my dream of producing slideshows with Jazz music over Landscape images still lives day I will figure out a way to get around all the rights and LLC stuff... I love this one, Gary! That moon is just conveyed magnificently...Thank you so much!

On first glance this seems so deceptively "simple" maybe because there are only 3 main elements (moon, sky, mountain) But the more I look, the more I see the gentle transitions of light, the shadow of the rest of the moon, the tiny outlines of the trees....I get such a calm, contemplative feeling from this- It makes me think about what is really important in life. And being smarter than my camera is something I strive for!! :) I'd also like to be smarter than my toaster- But I'm working on that one!

@Tracy: Oh, the toaster is an altogether different thing. Baby steps, Tracy, baby steps.

this is spectacular! the strong silhouetted landscape, the colours and transition of light in the sky and the mood sitting juts atop of the hill have been wonderfully arranged into a flawless photo!
