Poppy With a View, Point Reyes, California

Bracketing should mean something entirely different to digital photographers than it does to film photographers, yet many digital shooters cling unnecessarily to their exposure bracketing tendencies. If you shoot digitally (and don't plan to blend images), trust your histogram and bracket for composition, not exposure. Read here for more on how I used exposure bracketing to capture this beautiful poppy.

A very clever POV. With the seascape in the background, this yellow one make me think of a folded sun umbrella somehow.

Hi Gary - I want to re-read your blog notes tonight from home..all the words ring so true, but I always like to re-read your narratives and instructions because they really sink in to this old brain better that way;-) I am proud to say that I truly love to "work" a scene and subject, as well..I look vertically, horizontally, "in and out" (double entendre with the burgers that I miss so badly) but still I want to review your text because it is always so full of inspiration.

Because of your closeness and perspective here, this beautiful poppy has an unmistakeable feel and appearance of a wax candle formed into the shape of a poppy flower, rolled up...the little green "base" is a further convincing element that compels me to believe this impression that I have...The texture and depth, and the impression that this gives, just brings forth a comforting and peaceful emotion! The ocean is so dreamlike and the darker bottom of your frame is a perfect "foreground element" in itself!
There is an old song that I love, especially the arrangement performed by Cal Tjader..the song is "You Stepped Out of a Dream." Well, to me, that's what this image sings...So wonderful Gary...thank you - Be well sir!!
