The Undiscovered Country

Posted by
Gary Hart (California, United States) on 28 August 2009 in Landscape & Rural.

I'm in Big Sur this week helping Don Smith with his workshop, so I thought I'd take a break from my usual posts and post the cover of my new book, "The Undiscovered Country." It's a 112 page hardcover book of my images and classic poetry from greats such as Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, and Carl Sandburg (to name a few). The book came out beautifully, and best of all, it's only $10. It will be available in Barnes & Noble stores this fall, but it's available online right now on the Barnes & Noble website.

Judy from Brooksville, Florida, United States

Have a great time at the workshop and I'm waiting for my new coffee table book to arrive!
And just think, I've already had communication with the 'famous' photographer! :D

@Judy: Thanks, Judy--so far I'm not having to fight off too many paparazzi, so my "fame" is pretty manageable. :) And thank you for ordering a book. In February I gave everyone on my mailing list a chance to order an advance copy, but at this stage it actually benefits me more for people to order them through Barnes & Noble. It's also cheaper for you because my price ($15) includes shipping to me, plus shipping to you.

Vitor Martins from Lisboa, Portugal

Congratulations. The cover is very nice, the photo and ligth are amaizing. Have a nice workshop.

Don Smith from California, United States

I have my copy of Gary's book and can only add that it should be selling at 5 times this amount - it is beautifully done! The images in the book speak to the level of Gary's expertise and sensitivity as one of this country's top landscape photographer working today. I'd encourage all of you to purchase multiple copies as they would make for wonderful Christmas presents. Well done Gary; Beri and I are proud of you! My 13-year-old son Aaron looked at the book last night and said, "those pictures are insane!" That is teenage-speak for "awesome!"

29 Aug 2009 3:09pm

@Don Smith: Thanks, Don. Of course you were there for many of the shots (but I'll let you tell the story of the cover photo). :) Seriously, I was very fortunate to be given this opportunity. I was excited about the images we chose but held my breath about the way they would print. When the books finally arrived I was thrilled (and relieved) beyond words.

Didier DE ZAN from somewhere, France

Congratulations ...Very beautiful cover

Robert from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada

I found your blog through a link on another. I am blown away by your photography. A dream of mine has been to spend some time a Yosemite. You have lit the fire under me again and I think it's now in the cards for next year.

31 Aug 2009 3:20am

@Robert: Thank you, Robert. Yosemite is a magic place that differs with each season probably more than any location I've photographed.

Lee from Fort Frances Ontario, Canada

Conratulations Gary. I'll have to obtain a copy. Your work is truly inspirational.

Congratulations on the book! The images are heart stoppingly beautiful! They are what makes the book such a joy to read. And I do ---read it---a couple of times a week. There's always room for more inspiration in my life.

@Marjorie Iles: Thanks, Marjorie. I'm so glad you enjoy the book, and it's nice to know that my images have a positive effect on people.
