I'd love to share an interesting anecdote about the capture of this image, but I'm afraid that sometimes I just don't remember. Usually when I'm in the field I make a mental note of the captures I think have potential and make a point of visiting them as soon as I return home. But sometimes I overlook something and there it waits on my hard drive. I came across this one as I mined my archives searching for ocean images at the request of my publisher.
Sometimes when I return from a trip I just don't have time to scrutinize every image, often just doing a cursory perusal intending to return later. Of course "later" is never "now," so there they sit until some outside force (such as a particularly persistent publisher) forces me back.
But there's a certain comfort in the knowledge that I still have some undiscovered gems in my archives. And I bet you do too. Maybe you just overlooked them, or maybe your eye has evolved to the point where you appreciate something you missed earlier.
So on the next sunny day (because when it's raining you're out shooting, right?) make a point of going back through your old stuff to see what's there. I'll bet you find something that pleases you, and who knows, you may just surprise yourself with just how good a photographer you really are.
