Dogwood Blooms, Yosemite

Posted by
Gary Hart (California, United States) on 8 March 2009 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

May is when Yosemite is at its postcard best. The waterfalls usually peak in late May, but my favorite time is early in the month when the dogwood blooms in the valley. While the dogwood bloom can peak anywhere from mid-April to mid-May, you usually can't go wrong with a visit the first week of May.

Beautiful shot Gary. Btw I'm currently in Yosemite, arrived this afternoon. The weather was like spring today, think I missed the boat on catching a clearing storm image. Also as you can see, I joined the blog world.

@Bill Brown: Welcome to the blogosphere, Bill. I recognize a few of your images from last fall's Eastern Sierra trip. FYI, the key to catching the clearing storm in Yosemite is to head up there when you hear the storm's on the way (one of the great benefits of living within a few hours' drive of Yosemite). To minimize the potential for encountering snow (and chain requirements) take 140 out of Merced.

Another Beauty! hope I can sneak away & get there in May!
