Intimate PoppyPosted by Gary Hart (California, United States) on 21 January 2009 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio. More extension tube fun. Here I tried an extension tube on my macro lens and got up-close and personal with a Point Reyes poppy. This was a foggy morning, so much to my chagrin, without the sun’s urging this poppy simply refused to open. I took the shot anyway and can no longer remember why I wanted it any different. I can't tell you the number of times people of told me this makes them think of Georgia O'Keeffe. That wasn't my objective and in fact at the time I wasn't a big O'Keeffe fan. I've since come to appreciate her work and feel most humbled by the comparison. I'm a big believer that we subconsciously embrace and incorporate elements from art we’ve been exposed to, whether we remember it or not. Simply viewing the art of others not only brings pleasure to the conscious, it’s wonderful exercise for the subconscious. * My book of images, "The Undiscovered Country," is now available at Barnes & Noble * Become a fan of my Facebook page Thank you for visiting. Marie-Hélène Ammor from Casablanca/Paris, MoroccoAt first the photo has intrigued me but by reading your text and your process, I believe that I like it ! I find this very beautiful and interesting photo:! 21 Jan 2009 7:30pm Doug from Long Beach, United StatesThere's no mistaking that poppy color, even at this extreme macro. Very nice. 25 Jan 2009 6:30am LauraS from Chico, United StatesYou say so well, how art from our past influences our actions, without consciousness. Yes. Very intuitive shot, and well rewarded for trying it, eh? 6 Feb 2009 11:05pm |
